My trip to St Patricks by Sheila Smith

St Patrick’s Open Air School, Hayling Island

I can remember my one and only ride on the train very clearly.

It was late in the year of 1952. I was five years old. I travelled from Newbury to London on the train with my mother and stepfather, where I was met by two nuns who took me from there to Havant, also by train.

On reaching Havant we then got on to the ‘Hayling Billy’ down to West Town, where a car was
waiting to take me on to St Patrick’s open-air convent. This was my new home for a while.

Editor Note: St Patrick’s was located opposite the Fun Fair.
