Southern Railway proposal to strengthen the railway viaduct foundations

This proposal is dated 1924, one year after the grouping which absorbed the Hayling Railway Company and the London Brighton and South Coast Railway into the Southern Railway.

This proposal was undertaken and, as testiment to its success, the concrete foundations remain in place today, 89 years later. Following closure, an attempt to remove one of the piers, with explosives, failed.
