This painting is based on an photograph taken by Alan Bell and is image 62 in the very popular book ‘Branch Line to Hayling’, published by the Middleton Press.
Hi Peter
I feel that may be a suitably dramatic evocation of Hayling for the cover of the HIRA Christmas Newsletter, as discussed on Saturday. It would also be timely, to coincide with the 50th year commemmoration!
Also illustrates the signal post you are restoring I believe!
It was good to meet you on Saturday.
Thank you Paul and I am sure that Les Henson would be proud that his painting was used. It is more dramatic than the photograph.
The signal is on the opposite side of the bridge (Langstone). It is similar but this one includes a distance signal which is used to warn the driver if the Langston home signal is at danger (ie the level crossing is still open to the passage of road vehicles).
Best wishes
Peter
Hi Peter
I should be grateful if you could advise Les Henson of our interest.
Yes, I have to admit to being a little confused by the perspective. The Ship Inn does seem further away than it would at entrance to the railway bridge!
Is your project progressing satisfactorily?
Thanks for your reply Paul, I shall advise Les and give you feedback from him.
Funding for the project works is a priority now and we are working on this. Once we have this agreed, we can declare our objectives.
The 2013 events are also in work and shall be posted on here soon to allow people to plan visits. We hope the range of events will be attractive to a wide audience.
One thing that we do need is more dedicated people to join our project team.
Best wishes
Peter
