Gosport, Southsea and Hayling – such great losses! Can you imagine how the ghastly A32 to Gosport would be relieved if there was still a railway line! The Gosport Station looked a fine one too!
The impact of the closure of both the Gosport and Hayling branches have had the same effect which is still present today, very poor transport links.
The planners really did make a dreadful mistake in thinking that road transport was the future without any thought given to an integrated transport plan.
How things might have been different if better use was made of existing infrastructure. I come from Vienna, Austria and when you look how the Austrians have taken an integrated approach, it shames what we have done here.
