Speak Your Mind 1952

Invited to “Speak Your Mind” by the BBC, the people of Havant, needed no second bidding. They formed queues for the microphone in St Faith’s hall.

One reply to the question about what people thought of the proposal to close down the branch line to Hayling came from Mrs Elliott, who had two suggestions.

“First issue a cheap day ticket from Hayling. They already have this from Havant to Hayling but on the island we have to buy a monthly. Then there is the filthy condition of the trains. I always feel like taking a vacuum cleaner and a chamois leather so that I can look out at the view.”
