In parallel to working with community organisations to deliver a very successful series of events to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the closure of the railway, we have been working with Hampshire County Council, Havant Borough Council and the RSPB to deliver improvements on Hayling Island for both the community and visitors to the island.
The Hayling Billy Trail (mostly running on the bed of the railway) is now a footpath, cycleway and bridleway which passes through two Local Nature Reserves. In outline, we plan to improve access to the trail, provide seating, restore the signal and provide interpretation of the history and natural history of the area.
We are also working on improved access from the Hayling Billy Trail to the Oysterbed site and the construction of a viewpoint here. This is still at an early stage. I shall update you on this as things develop.
