Floods Near the Railway

Annual Parish Meeting at Northney Farm

A discussion was opened with reference to the flooding of land and houses, by high tides, near North Hayling station. W. Carpenter Turner stated that the Council had been communicating with the LB&SCR Company with the object of inducing them to raise the railway or erect a sea wall on the side of the permanent way. The Company had replied that their engineer would need to make an inspection before any decision could be made. Mr Turner said that failing this he would endeavour to get the Company to provide, or give the Council permission to place additional outlets for the water under the railway, so that the tide would be able to return into the harbour instead of lying on the land for several days.
