1962 Closure Notice (Courtesy of the National Railway Museum, York)

This image was taken on my recent visit to the National Railway Museum (NRM) York. The Search Engine personnel kindly provided this for me to view/photograph during my pre-arranged visit.

As you can see, the planned closure date was 31st December 1962 but the line soldiered on for another 8 months until the curtain finally came down on this much loved railway.

There was no doubt relief on the part of motorists, no more would the Langstone crossing gates cause long queues. Now of course, we still have long queues due to the increased road transport and only one fixed link to the island.
